I Am From...

I am from burgundy upholstered armchairs in my quiet living room,
I am from a home where setting the kichen table was strictly enforced,
I am from a raggety pale pink teddy bear, one that exceeds my own age in years,
I am from opening Christmas gifts one-by-one, then sifting through stockings simultaneously,
I am from those who traveled through Ellis Island,
I am from infinite amounts of pasta,
I am from aromas of popping cranberry relish on the eves of Thanksgiving,
I am from purple walls, purple sheets, and purple comforters,
I am from an inside joke about lobsters that no one actually knows the origin of,
I am from "everything happens for a reason,"
I am from traveling to the Cape when all my friends travel to the Jersey Shore,
I am from those moments of togetherness and company, moments that have shown me the importance of surrounding myself with my biggest supporters.
